What is Good Bad Flicks?
The show was originally started as a platform for me to talk about lesser known films and vent some frustrations about the current state of cinema. Initially it was just for my friends but it expanded beyond that to the point of my building the site.
Who are you?
Cecil Trachenburg. Just a guy who loves movies and wants to talk about them.
Why do you mainly focus on horror films?
Because horror films are awesome.
What are some of your all time favorite movies?
I’ll be doing a show dedicated to this later in the year.
What kind of music do you like?
Bad Religion, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Horse the Band, but I also enjoy alternatives like Soundgarden and many variations of heavy music. Everything from Muse to Queen. Big fan of 80s music too. I have a soft spot for girls with a piano like Fiona Apple, Sarah Mclaughlin and Tori Amos.
Can’t stand hip hop or 99.9% of this autotuned crap. I hate songs where they take a popular song from years ago and rap over it. That makes my blood boil.
Why do you do this?
I love movies. I love talking. This is a total peanut butter and chocolate sort of affair.
When is your next video?
New episodes premiere Sunday nights.
Can I request a movie?
Absolutely. I can’t guarantee I’ll do a show on it but it never hurts to bring something to my attention.
Are you ever going to review any newer movies?
Occasionally. I try to stick to older movies but sometimes I feel the need to give something more recent the attention.
Why do you praise movies that suck?
Because I’m right and you’re wrong.
What are the movies in your intro?
Here they are in order: (you should watch them all!) I Come in Peace, The Stuff, Class of 1999, My Boyfriend’s Back, Riki-Oh, Roller Boogie, Defcon-4, Thriller: A Cruel Picture, Class of 1999, Motel Hell, The Crazies, Society, Cool as Ice.
What is wrong with this video?
Some of the earlier episodes (specifically, 2, 15, and 16) had some flickering/skipping video due to a bad video card. I replaced it and that solved that. Those videos are still very watchable, I just wanted to point out that technical detail.
What are some of your favorite tv shows?
Mystery Science Theater 3000, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, She-Wolf of London, Angel, Firefly, The X-Files, Star Trek The Next Generation, Max Headroom, Robotech, The Chronicle, Futurama, Family Guy, V (the original, although the reboot was pretty good), Alien Nation, Dark Angel, Urban Angel, Xena, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, Space: Above and Beyond, Voltron, Eureka, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr, Star Blazers, Farscape, Ghost Hunters, Fringe, Millennium, Moonlight, Friday the 13th the series, South Park, Chappelle’s Show, Highlander, The Colony, Dexter, Ikki Tousen, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Psych, Monk, Chuck, The Flash, Charmed, Reaper, Kyle XY, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Harsh Realm, Strange Luck, War of the Worlds, The Sentinel, Action, The Invisible Man, Jericho, The Tick, Freakylinks, MacGyver, The A-Team, Tour of Duty, Tales of the Gold Monkey, Dark Skies, Primeval, The Middle Man, Kung Fu Theater, Creature Double Feature, Monstervision, Louie, The Ultimate Fighter, Medium, Sons of Anarchy, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Lexx, and Surface.
Ok, there is more but if I keep going I’ll be here all night.
Do you play video games?
Way too much, actually.
What are some of your favorite video games?
Fallout series, Bard’s Tale series, Final Fantasy IV, Unreal, Shadowrun, Blaster Master, Bionic Commando.
Are you going to review video games?
I’m working on something that you could call “Good Bad Games”.
Is there anyway I can help support the show?
You could help by being a Patron! I would greatly appreciate it and it would help keep the show going.

Enjoy the flicks.

You are awesome!!!!!
Your biggest fan,
Your sister 🙂
Came to this site after your post on CAG, and I’ve got to say, these videos are awesome. I came to just check out 1 of them (Dracula 2000) and now, I’m sitting here, going through all of them! You’ve got a new fan in me. Keep up the amazing work.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate the support and I’m glad you enjoy the videos.
Hey! You said you like all types of music, now you’re bashing hip hop? I agree that the auto tune is horse shit but what about the non auto tuned stuff? Anyway, I came (lol) to show my support :).
Allow me to expand upon that. I love old school rap like Run DMC, NWA, and such but this new garbage that gets labeled hip hop is mostly terrible. I’m talking about what the Black Eyed Peas have become or, ugh, P Diddy. I’m sure there is good hip hop out there that I’m not exposed to, I’m just going by the current crop of rubbish that is being forced at me. Sorry to lump it all into one category, I just don’t know what else to call it.
Thanks for the support!
Reading this 12 years later, you were blissfully unaware how bad it would get. The term “mumble rap” wasn’t even spoken yet. The good ole days.
I see but the black eyed peas are not hip hop. Anyhow, when are you planning on making this site safari friendly? I mostly browse while commutin to work or when at home and don’t feel like whipping it out (my laptop) so I use my iPad.
Gotcha. I’m just going by the label they are currently calling themselves but I understand. Kind of like how when people think “metal” some folks will think “Winger” while I think “Amon Amarth”.
Does the site not work at all on an iPad/Phone or just the videos? We have some iPads and iPhones at work but I never tried to bring the site up on them. I know the site plays fine on my Android.
Great stuff, really enjoying watching these.
Thanks!
Hey Cecil, can you please tell me what movies you use in the opening? I’m having trouble placing some.
Sure, no problem.
They are, in order:
I Come in Peace
The Stuff
Class of 1999
My Boyfriend’s Back
Riki-Oh
Roller Boogie
Defcon-4
Thriller: A Cruel Picture
Class of 1999
Motel Hell
The Crazies
Society
Cool as Ice
Hope that helps!
Hi .
Seen your review on youtube (RobotJox) , and followed link to this site and just had to watch all of your reviews 🙂
Alot of reviewed movies seen as a kid 🙂 Keep up a good work 🙂
Sorry for grammar , greetings from Russia 🙂
Thank you so much! I’m glad you like the show! You are in Russia? That’s awesome!
Hi Cecil, big fan of your review series. May i suggest a slasher from the 90s called Cherry Falls, It stars Brittany Murphy and Michale Biehn. Its like a reverse Friday the 13th(the killer in the movie only kills virgins).
Thanks! I’m really glad you like the show. 🙂
Ahh, I remember Cherry Falls. It got buried in all the post Scream hype but was a fun little slasher. Sure, I’ll put that on the list. Thanks for the suggestion!
I’ve gotta say that these vids are a lot of fun to watch. I love how you end the videos by mentioning a modern movie that isn’t good. It just makes my week.
I know you mentioned Robocop 2 (I think it was the NIght of the Creeps video) and I agree that movie is awesome and highly underrated. Just as good as the original in my opinion. A lot of people hate it for some reason. I guess they just don’t like Hob or Tom Noonan’s sick, but awesome Cain character.
By the way, what is your opinion on Halloween III?
Thanks! I’m glad you like them.
Robocop 2 is awesome, glad to see I’m not the only one. I also agree it is just as good as the original. Not sure why it gets so much hate but who knows? People are just weird. Cain was such a great villain. I think people didn’t like the direction the series was going, which is why they went PG-13 with the 3rd one and completely ruined the franchise. I was thinking of doing a really long episode dedicated to Robocop sometime next year since it will be the 25th anniversary of the original. I have some cool Robocop stuff (props, press kit, toys, etc) that I think people would like to see.
I like Halloween III. I was planning on doing it this October. I think if it was called Silver Shamrock (which if memory serves was the working title) or Season of the Witch instead of piggybacking the Halloween franchise, then it would have been received better. As it stands, most people just remember it as the Halloween without Michael Myers. It’s a neat premise and it has the great Tom Atkins. Totally underrated.
By the way, now that we have your favorite music, what are your favorite tv shows, from classic to recent?
Good question! Wow, I can’t believe I didn’t put that in the Faq, I’ll have to update with a full list. I love mostly horror and sci-fi, with the occasional curveball thrown in. (the first few seasons of Beverly Hills 90210 for example)
I’ll put a list up later, I have to think about it. (which means, it will most likely be a pretty huge list)
FAQ updated!
Here is an idea for you, could you add maybe some sort of history bar to the right? so we can easily browse to an episode we want to see?
I’ve actually wanted to do that for a while but didn’t get around to it. I put a basic archive up on the left but have to figure out how to set it with the names of the movies instead of just the months.
cool,
have you considered asking to be part of thatguywiththeglasses or do you no want to be associated with them?
It could bring in a lot of extra viewers.
I “applied” to them twice but they weren’t interested. Nice guys and all but they weren’t into what I was doing. Sure, I would love the exposure being involved with tgwtg would bring but I guess it’s not meant to be.
I happened upon a link to your blip account from another “show” (I think it was Cinema Snob), and didn’t see many comments (probably due to the horrific interface). Anyway, I’m glad you have this site, because I felt compelled to leave a thank you. Your videos are great, and they’ve introduced me to a lot of fun movies that I’d never see otherwise (a number available in that wasteland known as Netflix Streaming). So, THANKS! You rock. Keep it up!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
The show is getting bigger and better so I have plenty more due in the coming months. 🙂
Cecil,
Suggestion: Xtro
Question: Where do you get your research? Its great stuff and I can’t ever find as many things as are contained in your reviews.
Request: Can you check out one of our podcasts and give us some feedback: http://t.co/BpWb9MKo We’re trying to do something similar to what you have going here (didn’t discover you til after we had made several episode-promise).
Ahhh Xtro, such a weird movie. I’ll add that to the list for sure.
I get my info from all over. Sometimes it is as easy as a director’s commentary or bonus materials, other times I get it right from the source, like someone who was directly involved with the film. I know a few industry folks and I get to hear some really cool stories. I also have a ton of press materials and other stuff not usually given to the public so I pull from there as well.
I’m a little mobbed right now but I promise I will check your show out as soon as I can. I see you did Chopping Mall and Society, two classics!
Hey, just wanted to let you know I listened to your podcast. I checked out Society, Chopping Mall, and Red Lobster. (lol) Sorry it took so long but things have been crazy around here.
Shoot me an email and I’ll give you my thoughts. (they are good!) goodbadflicks@gmail.com
That kind of access sounds amazing-and thanks!
Thank you! 🙂
Dear Cecil,
I had to say you thanks so much for so much entertainment. It really gave me nostalgic feeling and awakened my post apocalyptic senses. Big thanks to your work. I would like to mention if you are to cover Death Machine?
Best regards
Mario.
Glad you are enjoying the show! You just reminded me it has been far too long since I’ve done a post apocalyptic movie. I’ll have to fix that.
I have Death Machine on the list but I’m not sure when I was going to do it. I’ll put it in the voting for January!
Thanks!
Cecil,
I’ve posted over at Agony Booth too, but I wanted to mention here how entertaining your series is.
One question: on my iPhone at least some of your videos appear on Youtube, where they’re really convenient to watch on the go, on the couch, etc. Do you plan upload your other videos at some point, or is there a reason only about half of them appear?
Thanks!
-sunrise089
Thanks!
There is actually a good reason for that. When I first was starting out I was making the shows on Blip.tv just for some friends. I was using licensed music in the intros that wasn’t my own. When I decided to get a bit more serious with the show, I started up the website and did an intro with my own music.
Episodes 1-36 I can’t put on youtube because they get flagged for content. (the music) So in order to host them there I’d have to go back and re-edit them all to have the new intro. I’d like to do that to open them up to the youtube audience but I just don’t have the time. I have a few I want to go back and tweak (like I did with Thriller) so eventually they may all be there.
Thanks again for the support!
it could be me but the link in the left side of the page is not working properly.
(blackrabbitsociety)
Oh Jeez, I forgot to remove that link. BRS used to be a friend of mine’s old website. After running it since around 2005, he finally decided to let it go. We used to use it primarily for the message boards but after social media came into play we were using it less and less.
So what about good bad metal?
Plenty of those to be found in the 80s. Check out an old article called metalsploitation from the founder of thecorroseum.
Also since you mentioned that you love 80s thrash, do you collect them on vinyl? I recently only started buying my 80s metal on vinyl. Got about 150 atm.
I have tons of what would probably be considered “good bad metal”. I think most would be comprised of epic hair metal. I’ll have to give that article a read, hopefully it can turn me on to some bands I may not have heard of.
I don’t collect vinyl, mostly because I have to cut off the collections somewhere. If I collected every format I would fill up my house pretty quick. I try to limit my media collection to movies and games. As far as music I have a monsterous cd collection (many of which from my time of college radio) but that is eclipsed by my mp3s. I know a lot of people prefer to have physical copies but music is the one thing I actually prefer to have all digital.
hey Cecil I think that you should review moontrap it fits to what you like it’s scifi horror and it’s very unrated and really obscure
I have Moontrap on the list. It was cool to see Walter Koenig playing a badass for a change.
You should check out the Japanese movie Tokyo Gore Police, i don’t think it has an English dub (my version of the DVD doesn’t at least) but it has a scene with a guy using a cock-canon to kill police officers and only a 6/10 on IMDB, if that’s not a ‘good bad flick’ i don’t know what is
I am very familiar with Tokyo Gore Police. I prefer the subbed version of foreign films because most times the dub is either really bad or the dialog is poorly translated. TGP is great, I’ve been wanting to do it for a while now. I also have Machine Girl, Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl, and Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge in the queue.
I’ll probably get to it sometime before the end of the year. Gotta love extreme gore!
have you heard of shock treatment 1981
Oh yes, the Rocky Horror follow up. The cover freaked me out as a kid. I’ve seen it but not in a long time. I remember liking it…thinking about it now reminded me of the old weird Rocky Horror video game.
Ryan Reynolds is going to play Conner Macleod in the Highlander remake that is one of the worst casting choices I have ever heard
He needs to fire his agent. That is just awful. On top of him being a horrible choice for MacLeod, Highlander shouldn’t be remade.
To be honest i won’t mind the remake (casting is a coin flip), after what I heard and saw from Spoony’s review of Highlander: The Source, they need to bring back the highlander movie to it’s glory (and maybe add things for possibility for sequels like, the gathering being a cycle in a given location or something) otherwise the Highlander series is going to be remembered as Great first film, but worse than shit sequels and spin offs
I know and Cecil please stay clear of the Highlander the source it’s worse than the second!
C- Hi. Just saw Galaxy of Terror a Roger Corman flick from the very early 1980’s. I think it’s up your alley. I think you’d have a lot to say about it. Lots of famous people worked on it. Sid Hague, Erin Moran, Robert Englund, Zalmon King, the future director and James Cameron. If you look at the pyramid in Galaxy also, I think, pops up in Aliens. Parts of the movie looks like Prometheus. Love Good Bad Flick. I really appreciate what a great job you do with it.
Oh, while Galaxy is of course a rip off of Alien. You could say that Alien is also a heavy borrower of the 1958 “It the terror beyond space” the Italian movie “Planet of the Vampires” 1968.
Thanks! Galaxy of Terror is crazy. It is an Alien knock off but not without its own spin.
hey Cecil are you ever going to do any crossovers?
I’m not really against crossovers but I don’t actively seek them. I have a wacky schedule and it just suits me to work solo. However if someone asked and I liked what they wanted to do, I would be fine with it.
Hi. Just saw a review on Masters of The Universe on youtube and the link brought me here. What i wanted to know is if you have a list with the names of all these movies that you review and if you could send it to me. I’ve got a lot of Full Moon Classics, like Bad Channels, puppet masters, etc. But those are B-movies by definition. What i’m interested in now are those movies that you review. Thanks a lot!
Marco
Cool, thanks for making your way to the site!
Here is a list of everything I have done so far. I’ve done a few Full Moon/Empire movies but have many more on the way.
http://www.imdb.com/list/sAm7Iv3lDQw/
Whats up man!
I just have a fan suggestion – please try and stick to 80’s and 90’s those are the most fun. Any other decade just blows, especially movies from the 2000’s (blah).
Thanks and keep it up! 😉
Thanks!
While I would like to do nothing but 70s-80s-90s material, the truth of the matter is that newer stuff draws more views. I’m not talking just views but new subscribers and new people in general. Now, I’m not going to go and start talking about Jack and Jill or something, I still veer towards movies that deserve some recognition, regardless of when they came out. I do prefer the older movies, they have that certain magic that is few and far between these days. We still get them, just not as often as the gems of old.
Essentially what I’m saying is I would like to stick with the old but in order for this show to continue to grow and expand, it needs the new. Besides, eventually the new becomes the old. 🙂
cecil have you ever seen brother 1997
Nope, never saw that one. However, after looking it up it sounds very cool. I’ll have to check it out.
I know you like the horror movies, but you also like the post apocalyptic. There is a FANTASTIC goodbad movie by the name of The Blood of Heroes. Everytime I get someone to watch it, they come away wanting to start their own team. Just watch it whether you do a review or not, you will thank me
Yep, more Rutger Hauer goodness. Seen it many times and I do plan on getting to it eventually.
One of my personal favorite Good Bad films is the psychic adventure film starring Jeff Goldblum, Cyndi Lauper and Peter Falk known as….Vibes(1988). I hope to see it here one day.
Ah Vibes, what a wacky movie. I’ll add it to the list, it should be fun.
Any thoughts on the Andrew “Dice” Clay/ Terri Hatcher vehicle Brainsmasher: A Love Story?
Love it! I would rather they have just called it “Brainsmasher” instead of adding the “A love story” but that is just a personal annoyance of mine. (it works with all movies that feel the need to add something in after the title…like Ever After: A Cinderella Story)
It was wasn’t as good as the Adventures of Ford Fairlane but for a low budget movie about a bouncer and a model, its classic 90s cheese. I plan on doing it at some point but most likely after Ford Fairlane.
Awesome, I love the movie. Better than Ford Fairlane, actually, but you’re right about the title. Because of that I always think of it along with the Ted Raimi-starring, Josh Becker-directed Lunatics: A Love Story. Two great very weird in their own way 90s movies.
Ford Fairlane will always have a special place in my heart.
Hey any idea when we’ll see Slugs and The Children reviews? I’ve been waiting oh so patiently!!
Slugs…not sure.
The Children is definitely more of a winter movie. (so, sometime in the fall-ish?)
When you get tired of these let me know but there’s 2 Mark Hamill movies out there Slipstream and Midnight Ride. Slipstream has Mark playing the secondary character of a vicious lawman in a wind-ravaged, post-apocalyptic future on the hunt for an android wanted for murder who was stolen from him by Bill Paxton.
Midnight Ride features Mark as a hitchhiking psycho named Justin who kidnaps the wife of a policeman and takes her with him to see his old doctor(Robert Mitchum), murdering people along the way. The husband, played by Michael “American Ninja” Dudikoff gives chase. Slipstream has a few low quality DVD releases but I don’t think Midnight Ride has any yet. Which is a shame because you can clearly see the beginnings of Mark’s Joker voice work in it.
Keep em coming!
I have Slipstream planned but never saw Midnight Ride. I have some Dudikoff awesomeness coming up, starting (most likely) with American Ninja.
I just saw that Midnight Ride is on YouTube.
Michael Dudikoff and Mark Hamill? I’m pretty sure I have that around here somewhere.
When viewing older flicks like “Ninja III the Domination” on this site with Android, I get a message that a plugin is required for viewing. What is the plugin and why are the older flicks different than the newer one (at least on android)? By the way, excellent work! I think the overall quality research and humor is awesome!
Have you considered reviewing Swamp Thing? I remember this from my youth as a great movie, but not sure it would hold up now that I know how to think.
Weird, I wonder if it is something to do with the old codecs. About a year ago Blip switched to h264, which was a much better codec than whatever the used to use. (I don’t remember, its been a while) So maybe the old videos still have the old codec conversions? I’ll have to look into it.
Thanks! I’m glad you are enjoying them. I put a lot of time and effort into making them as good as I can. 🙂
Swamp Thing is definitely on the list. Probably doing that one around spring. It’s a lot of fun and the effects hold up very well.
Hey Cecil,
Love your site/reviews. I was wondering if you had considered doing KISS meet the phantom of the park. I’m a huge KISS fan and have tried to watch this film on so many occasions. There is some comedy gold moments due to its sheer awfulness and some amazing dubbing I think it would make a great episode, not sure if there are any other Band based films that you could pair it with?
Thanks! I was thinking about it but I’m not as big on KISS as I was when I was younger. The movie is hilarious though and stands as a reminder to just how ridiculously huge KISS was back then.
Hey Cecil,
I just ran across your site and it’s great. I am a fellow movie lover and am quite the critic if I do say so. My favorite guilty pleasure of all time is Night of the Comet and was quite pleased to see it on here. When I watch it, I typically double feature it with “They Live” (1988). If you have seen it, I think it would make a great addition to your site.
Maybe “Escape from L.A.” (1996) too, but I wouldn’t want to push it.
Thanks! Glad you found it and are enjoying the videos.
Night of the Comet is grand, Shout Factory is putting out a special edition Bluray in November in case you didn’t know. I’m very excited for it, such a great movie.
They Live is awesome! I do plan on getting to that one. Same with Escape from LA, although that one I might mix as a double with NY/LA. Haven’t decided how I wanted to go yet.
I didn’t know about the Bluray of Night. Thanks for the heads up. I like the idea of putting NY/LA together, but you can almost do a whole episode on Pam Grier’s character in La alone. Thinking either way you do it would be great.
Since NY is already so well known and beloved, I was thinking of just talking a little bit about it and what lead into them deciding to make LA. (like when John Carpenter called Kurt Russell and found out he still had the Snake outfit in his closet) Now LA on the other hand, gets bashed pretty regularly. No its not as good as NY but it is still a good time.
NY to me always seemed to be one of those cult films more in the lines of Mad Max, whereas LA just went so off the wall with the camp. So while NY is the better made movie, I tend to have more fun watching LA.
Now with you being a movie fan, I’m sure you have already heard of Cockneys vs Zombies. It’s just out on dvd and is one crazy movie. More of what I had hoped Shaun of the Dead should have been, but didn’t quite get to. (Yeah I know I’m in the minority when it comes to Shaun of the Dead.) Hope you enjoy if you haven’t already seen it.
When LA first came out people hated it. I love NY for its bleak and serious tone. LA is silly and fun, which was a complete shift from NY. Also, Snake was so much more of a prick in LA he bordered on parody. Both are good, just in different ways.
I heard of CvsZ, mostly because I follow Shout factory. I’ll check it out, its one of the films high on my list. (along with VHS 2, Europa Report, and Bad Milo)
Request: Highway to Hell (1991). Always saw it sitting in the video store, never saw it, Netflix doesn’t have it on DVD.
Haven’t replied in a while, but have seen VHS 2 and Europa Report since then (still waiting on Bad Milo). I think VHS 2 is better then the original I don’t think it’s that good and not bad enough to be a good bad movie. I think Europa Report was flat out a good movie, so it doesn’t really qualify for this site.
Now I do have a good recommendation for you for this site. It’s called “Heebie Geebies” (2013). I don’t know why this ended up in my Netflix queue, but I am glad it did. Picture a stellar cast like Jennifer Rubin (“A Nightmare in Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors”), Marion Ross (“Happy Days”), and Michael Badalucco (“The Practice”) with a monster that looks like a two-headed turtle with lots of teeth and you have a lot of fun.
LOVED Europa Report. Still need to see VHS2 and Bad Milo. I’m looking to see +1 tomorrow night.
Heebie Geebies sounds great! I just added it to my Netflix q
I’ve had +1 on my q for awhile. Looks like it should be pretty good but no release date yet. Enjoy Heebie Geebies.
+1 was really good. Very happy I saw it when I did. (before someone spoiled it)
Just got Heebie Jeebies from Netflix today. Hopefully I can watch it this weekend.
Hoped you enjoy/enjoyed Heebie Jeebies as much as I did.
I know that this is sort of off the horror/sci-fi genres, but I heard that there is early development of a remake of “Flowers in the Attic” (1987). The original version, in my opinion, took a disturbing concept and turned it a laughable mess of a movie, which is why I liked it. What is your opinion on it and remaking it?
Will you review American Samurai?
Eventually yes.
You are a great reviewer! Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
You’re the fucking man, man! I first watched your video on The Wicker Man and holy shit are your videos like heroin, I was addicted right away! Fucking hilarious! You are very under rated and deserve a lot more praise than what I think you get! Keep up the outstanding work man!
Thank you so much! I will never get tired of hearing this.
Wicker Man was one of my favorites too. I had a lot of fun putting it together…and people thought I was crazy for doing it!
Glad you are enjoying the show 🙂
How about a review on Deep Rising? I believe it is relativly un known to the general audience and it has been given poor critic review scores. However, this movie scared the be-gi-bees out of me when I first saw it when I was 5, and I have grown to really enjoy it everytime I watch it and am helplessly hoping for a sequel because of the funny ending!
Deep Rising is coming…soon-ish. Right now I’m thinking either Feb or March.
It’s a unique sci-fi action horror with a great cast and a nasty creature. I’m surprised it isn’t a bigger cult hit.
Hey, just ran through your youtube channel and watched almost all your episodes. I’m so glad someone out there spoke my mind when it comes to cult/ *ploitation movies. Great job on the editing as well.
Thank you! There are some episodes on here (1-36) that aren’t on youtube if you want to check them out. I’ll warn you though, they are my older ones and I was still figuring things out back then.
Merry Christmas!
Dude, your videos rock! Like everyone else here, I was fortunate to come across your channel, viewed one and now I’m hooked. Brings me right back to the glorious cheesiness that was the 80s and early 90s. Really appreciate all hard work you put into your videos, it clearly shows. I’m sure you’re swamped with requests, but here’s a few you might consider: Gleaming the cube, American Ninja, The Lost boys, No Retreat No Surrender, Repo Man, Cobra, Red Scorpion. Thanks again!
Merry Christmas to you too!
Thank you! Glad you found it.
All of those are on the list. I do take requests and try to do them over the course of the year. You did just miss the voting for my all request month I do every year. So, coming up in January is Howard the Duck, Phantasm, Gremlins 2, and They Live.
Going out on a limb here and guessing you have the Criterion of Repo Man as well? We gotta have more Christian Slater on this show…
Of course. On that note, Gleaming the Cube is a glaring omission on my part.
What do you think of freejack 1992
Loved it. I thought Mick made a great good guy/bad guy. I’m surprised I haven’t done it yet.
Hey man! Youtube refuses to let me comment..so i came here just to say keep up tue good work man! Watched all of your vids and even checked out a few new ones thanks to you.
Hi, just saw your review on “The Apple”. I’m the guy who played “Dandy” and I’m still laughing, I though your review was entertaining, fun and right on the money (Even thought you slated me). Good job Buddy. Love the site!!!
Allan
Thank you so much! It was my pleasure, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Also, thanks for not taking any of the jabs personally, I was just having a bit of fun with a ridiculously silly film. I love the movie dearly and I hope you have fond memories of working on it.
All the best to you good sir!
Can you do a review on the movie mosquito from 1995
Hi, Cecil
I’m a brazilian journalist from Folha (http://www1.folha.uol.com.br/internacional/en/). I’m doing a reporting about movie posters and i would like to talk with you about your video “WTF Happened to Movie Posters?”.
Best regards,
Matheus
Sure, I’ll email you.
Hey Cecil have you heard of the legend of 1900 with Tim Roth
No but I’ll check it out.
This seems like a good place as any to ask: Is there any chance of you doing Andy Sidaris films? Personally, I find Hard Ticket to Hawaii especially wonderful.
Hey i was trying to download the episode on 2019 after the fall of new york but i continually get an error message from itues, can u check it out
It seems there is some cutoff between Blip and iTunes. I’ll see what I can do.
Hi Cecil,
Love the show, but have you had any luck figuring out why iTunes hasn’t been updating? The last episode I got from you on iTunes was May 12, 2014.
Thanks…
Thanks!
Unfortunately, Blip no longer crossposts to iTunes. Sorry about that.
Hey Cecil. This site is great. The movies you post are great classics and its great to see someone love what they do. I was wondering if you going to do more of the “Exploring” series? I really like the you break down a movie and explain the details and back story of the movies. Maybe you can do an orginal vs. remake series?? I would love it if you can do: The House on Sorority Row vs. Sorority Row
Bloody Birthday
Curtains
Stage Fright vs. Stage Fright (2014)
I LOVE the Stay Alive video. So much stuff people should know about that movie and I’m from Louisiana so its my favorite video on the site. Keep making more videos and keep us entertained.
Thank you!
That’s a pretty cool idea, although it would definitely take longer than a regular episode. I’m currently in about 5 things but I’ll keep it in mind for the future.
Awesome! I was happy with how Stay Alive turned out, although if I had to do it over I would have done it as a full Exploring video. (I wasn’t doing those yet) It’s such a shame that movie was gutted by the studio. It’s an even worse shame that it gets so much hate when the unrated cut is quite good.
Excuse me sir, but is the archive incomplete? Because alot of your older ones will not play for me, it might be because i am on mobile, i was just wondering…
There is a Blip ap that you should be able to view the videos on mobile. You won’t be able to watch them on the site but you can download the ap and then search “Good Bad Flicks”.
Why would you fucking idiots create a video about movie ratings and censorship, and then censor the nudity in your analysis? Fucking pathetic hypocrites.
Hello, you must be 12. First of all, I am one guy that does all this. Secondly, please direct your attention to the image below.
That is directly from Blip, the company that hosts the videos. I upload something with nudity, it gets taken down. They crosspost the videos over to youtube and for years they have had a “no nudity” stance. I only recently discovered that youtube backed off on that but it still gives them the option to block the video or take it down (and put a strike on the channel) if they feel like it.
So, I’m not going to risk everything I’ve worked for up to this point just so you can see some tits. Go away.
Cecil has a point, mate.
Greetings from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
I have been gorging myself on your videos since I stumbled across them. I must say, I’ve been quite impressed by the sheer number of things we agree on. It is quite astounding. ‘Hanna’…’Man of Steel’…’Prometheus’…’Prisoners’…to name just a few examples of recent “bigger” movies, and your dissection of the classics is equally as informative and entertaining. Not only is your content interesting, but the production and pacing of your videos are excellent as well.
I just watched ‘Resolution’ (2012) on recommendation from your top ten list, and it was really excellent. Vinny Curran’s performance as ‘Chris’ was flawless.
Keep the awesome videos coming.
Thank you! I have an old friend who used to live in Canada but moved to the US a few years back.
Glad to hear more people checking out Resolution. Such an awesome movie that really makes you question everything you just watched.
Lots more to come 🙂
Hi Cecil
I have just started a blog which features a lot on horror movies, comics, music,tv shows but mainly horror. Could i please feature your site to be my first “website of the month” section?
Thanks
Connor
Hi Connor,
Sure! I’m honored 🙂
Hey Cecil
Reviewed the site, I’m not a starting critic at all i just say stuff about what i like and what i don’t like so i hope this suits you and that it points more people in your direction, not that you need it.
http://renegade6661.tumblr.com/post/104913716751/website-of-the-month
Connor
Thank you! You are too kind 🙂
Hey Cecil,
I just wanted to say I love this site. I just found it recently, being linked to your “Every Reference in Cabin in the Woods” video on youtube, and I’ve spent my last couple days off watching your reviews. You have an extremely good voice for this type of work, and your dry humor really makes me laugh. I especially liked the “Exploring Blair Witch 2” which I’ve always considered one of my favorite movies, just for the simple psychological aspect of it. I’ve been a movie nerd ever since I was a little kid when my mom and would watch stupid horror movies like Blair Witch on like HBO and while most of the titles you’ve reviewed I haven’t actually seen, I do enjoy watching your reviews because it introduces me to movies I may have never watched before. I look forward to watching new videos and learning more about what went in to make them.
Keep up the excellent work!
Jesseh
Thank you! I like to try and have a mix of intelligence as well as humor for these. Some are more serious than others, and then beyond that some are just for fun. So happy to introduce people to unknown films or let them in on the troubled history of movies like Blair Witch 2.
Lots more to come in 2015. 🙂
Hi Cecil! For starters I want to say I am a huge fan and it is nice to actually be able to see someone have the same views and thoughts on so many great movies that others cast aside for idiotic reasons. I do have a question though about how your videos are made. Was wondering how you use scenes from the movies in your videos? I have been trying to do this with some screen capture software for my own videos and projects, but so far nothing I use has worked.
Hi Cecil! Just discovered the YouTube Channel and am glad to see non-obnoxious reviews my favorite cult movies! I’d like to put in a request for one of my all time favorites – the 1981 horror parody, Student Bodies, because, well… garbage gets me hot.
Welcome! Thanks! Student Bodies is a riot. A nice triple feature with Wack-o, and Saturday the 14th. I’ll add it to the list. 🙂
Were you born in Germany in 1973 and mysteriously snatched from your real parents? lol For the love of all things holy I found your YouTube channel this morning and have been going through your reviews for the last five hours or so. Other then the 90210 thing, I think I found my twin brother. lol Keep up the good work man, its about time someone on the internet did reviews who actually watched the films and appreciated everything that goes into it. Your review of The Happening and by association the director, M. Night Shyamalan was spot on in my opinion as well as the one you did on Man of Steel. Zack Snyder took the time to flesh out how a person is affected by his environment and not necessarily by his DNA or heritage. Superman was raised human, he is going to act human. Ok ive blown enough sunshine up your kiester, ive looked at both your sites but didnt see an option to make a one time donation for the time being? Perhaps im missing it? Again outstanding work man. I am so glad I found this.
-Rod
LOL I get that a lot. Not so much Germany but all over the world really. Its just good to know there are still people out there who share my tastes. 🙂
Thanks for all the kind words, I do appreciate it. I was tired of all the negativity in fandom and movies and wanted to be a counter point to all the angry internet reviewer guys. Movies are supposed to be fun/entertaining!
If you want, I have a paypal button on the top left side of the page if you want to donate. I appreciate that as well. I’m still working a full time job aside from this so every little bit helps. ^^
Great vids. Thanks for taking the time. Any word on the top 10 for 2014?
Thanks! June. End of June. I should totally be ready by then. I have a nice bunch now but there are still a few I need to see. I promise next year won’t be as late lol
Hey Cecil! I’ve been following your videos for a few months and love your sense of humor! Out of curiosity, are you a fan of the Godzilla movies? I feel like you would really enjoy kaiju films.
Thanks! Oh yeah, I grew up on Godzilla movies, along with creature double features. My favorites being a tie between Godzilla vs Biolante and Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla. I even like the Gamera movies and oddballs like Frankenstein conquers the world.
I will admit though, I was disappointed with Pacific Rim. I wanted to like but just thought it was ok. It was light years better than the 1998 Godzilla though. Speaking of, I do still need to see the 2014 one.
I’m a big fan of the Heisei era Godzilla films ( Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah). I actually really liked Pacific Rim, even though it did have some flaws.
Have you thought about doing Return of the Living Dead (1985) in one of your videos? Based on your love for Night of the Creeps (which is awesome!), I think it’s right up your alley!
I’ve had a RotLD in mind for a while. I love parts 1 and 3.
By the way, Cecil, how old are you? Late 20s, early 30s or mid 30s? You don’t have to give us your exact age, of course.
Some recommendations
Gargoyles 1972
The Omega Man, based on I am Legend with Charlton Heston. 1971
Race with the Devil, Peter Fonda.1975
Demons 1 and 2, 1985 and 86. Produced by Dario Argento and directed by Lamberto Bava.
I think you’ll really like these films.
Its been so long since I’ve seen The Omega Man. All of these are on the list. Thanks for the suggestions. 🙂
Cecil, I love the film reviews. I used to do film reviews many years ago on youtube under the name Johnny Brentwood. Anyways, have you ever seen Best Seller or Ravenous? Also, have you ever gone to school for film?
Thanks!
Haven’t seen Best Seller, love Ravenous. I have the press kit for it and it has recipes in it for cooking “human”.
Never went to film school but have friends/have worked with people who work in the industry. (cameramen for reality shows and what not)
Anytime and awesome!
When you manage to get some free time, check out Best Seller. Also, that’s great your friends work in the industry. I am going to school this fall for film and I’m very excited.
So, how many blu-rays or dvds do you own? I used to have close to 600 but I recently sold a few of them. Lastly, what state do you live in?
How many DVD/Blus do I own? Not sure the count but a lot.
I live in PA.
Hey I’ve got 7 friends to sub you I’m the one who wants you to do Blown Away 1992 Corey Haim Corey Feldman and also Creepshow the first one but take your time on researching them. Just wanted to nag you again about them once again love your channel.
LOL I appreciate it! Blown Away will happen at some point.
Now that Blip.tv is shutting down in 3 days, do you have plans to save your older videos and make them available somewhere (since you cant use youtube for that)?
I have all the old vids saved. Can’t put them on youtube so I’m not sure. I do plan on giving some a complete overhaul in HD with all new scripts but that will take a while.
Thank you for the answer. I understand you cannot put them on youtube, but perhaps there is other ways to make them accessible, such as an archive hosted on a Google Disk or something like that. I dont know if there are many people like me, but i like to follow artists from their beginning and i was going through your videos from the very first one, alas Blip went down and so did the videos. And your videos are things worth looking at even 5 years down the line.
I’m looking into it. I’m redoing some but not all of the early ones.
Twice Dead would be something I think you would really enjoy. Love the sound of your voice which makes those quick wit obscure comments even funnier! Love it when the baby naps so I can watch your reviews! http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0096319/
I remember that cover but don’t think I’ve ever seen it. I’ll check it out!
Thanks for the compliment. 🙂
I am having problems watching your older episodes – I am merely getting a white screen. I tried all browsers, and portable devices to no avail. Any ideas? Or are the episodes are simply gone and I am beating my head against the wall?
Ep. 27 for example. Could not get it to show anything no matter what I tired 🙁
Blip, the site the used to host the videos, episodes 1-36 went out of business. Because of some music issues (as well as quality) I can’t put them on youtube. I’m taking most of them and redoing so eventually the majority of them will be back.
Oh woe!
Oh fate, the cruel mistress!
I would love to see you do a review of Highway to hell it has everything cheesy/origonal make up effects, cameos of later famous actors, a crazy amount of bad puns, and Gilbert Gottfried as Hitler.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104418/
Trailer – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Zh1Lfr_Ass
Hey love your reviews. There is a very underratted movie I was hoping you would do a review on and that’s 1990 Phillip Noyce movie Blind Fury. Would you be up to reviewing the movie?? It’s make a great video.
I just checked out “The Circle” on Netflix. It’s much better than I expected. If you get a chance to check it hopefully you will like it as much as I did.
I have a few recommendations, the first is ”Race with the Devil” made in 1975 with Peter Fonda and ”Gargoyles” 1972. I don’t know if you have already seen them, but I think they would make for an entertaining ”Flicks” episode.
Why are so many of your reviews now gone or whited out so to speak? Copyright issues?
Episodes 1-36 are lost because the hosting company went out of business. The rest should be up (linked to youtube) with the exception of a few random ones that are region blocked.
Let me know if there are any beyond the first 36 that you can’t see. (in case there is some weird issue)
Oh and I’m in the process of redoing many of the original ones so they will be back up over 2016. 🙂
I really enjoy your movie reviews. It is incredibly refreshing to find someone who has more to say about a movie than “it sucked. it wasn’t the big budget blockbuster b.s. I wanted” etc. A movie does not need a big budget to be good and i really appreciate the depth of research that goes into your videos. I’m interested to see what you have to say about The Story of Riki. I’d love to see a video about the Wing Commander film, or hear your thoughts about the Clive Barker helmed Hellraiser remake. Keep doing what you do Cecil!
After hearing your praise of the Trick or Treat and Rocktober Blood soundtracks, I assume you like hair metal. What are some of your favorite hair bands?
I noticed the majority of your episodes located in your NOV 2010 file are not loading. You have some classic films in there that are just dying to be viewed (= Love what your doing!!
Never mind. I just read your reply to a similar post. Pays to read before posting…lol!
No worries! Many of them will be back in updated forms.
Hey man,
I’m totally addicted to this channel.
Problem is I’ve watched almost all the videos you have listed.
Do you have an archive channel on YouTube where the old eps can be viewed?
I just gotta get my GoodBadFlicks hit!!
Ta
Thanks! Due to some rights issues, the old ones are “lost”. I’m redoing most of them so you will see them eventually!
Hi Cecil,
Love your work. I was wondering if there’s a stable ‘About’ page to this website? One that maybe covers this website’s achievements, viewer count (and other stats… no. of videos to date?), authors/contributor and their credentials, methodology when covering a film in a review, etc?
And I’m not sure if this question has been asked before but has this website won any awards or gained any mention in more official media platforms?
I’m asking because I love your stuff but it just seems a little iffy to cite any ol’ fan-site so I’m also looking for things I can say to boost your credibility if I use your stuff in an essay 🙂
Either way, keep up the good work!
I absolutely love your series. Something I am curious about however. What happened to the early episodes? Nothing before episode 37 appears to be available. Is ther any hope of them being made available again?
Hello, I was just wanted to ask if you’ve seen undead the horror comedy from 2003. Its a really fun ozploitation movie that i almost never see anyone talking about, that i think it would make a great episode.
I loved Undead! They did a ton of work themselves. Really a great story behind the film, I’m looking into it for the future but I’m taking a break from zombie movies for a little while.
Hey man, absolutely love your videos. I’m also obsessed with the outro music by Psychostick, is it a totally bespoke piece they made for you or is there a longer version anywhere?
Hi Cecil – I have a mystery I am desperately trying to solve. I’ve been asking people for years about this movie but no one can point me in the right direction. Love your show and the impressive amount of research you do, so I thought maybe you could help… pardon the copypastaesque quality, I’ve sent it around to many people without an answer using the same entry.
Halloween, 1991, I was in 4th Grade. My teachers set up the projection machine and crammed all three classes into one room for the most terrifying, cerebral movie I have ever seen. Investigations, Robert Stack style, have been fruitless, and I am beginning to believe it was actually a layover experiment from the cold war. Please prove otherwise!
The movie is probably twenty minutes in length, has no dialogue and is in color. However, even for 1991, and myself only being 11, I noticed that the style of the film and the look of the actors seemed dated. Thinking back, I’d put creation of the film between 1964 and 1974.
There are three character in the film. A dude, his dead wife, and a real, live wolf. The dude is a mountain man, complete with bounty beard and flannel shirt. After a bunch of scenes of untouched Appalachia in the late spring, we are introduced to the dude carrying the body of his young bride. She is lifeless, and if I remember correctly, her hands are clasped on her stomach and her wrists are tied together by blue ribbon. He gets to his log cabin, and when he enters it is filled with shit that we learned about in the ubiquitous revolutionary history of elementary school.
He lays his little dead wife on a table in the center of the cabin and begins to go through with his daily afternoon chores. He seems stoic and sad, a large, imposing creature dealing with the inevitability’s of life the way we would expect of a frontiersman. I remember he cleaned up, checked his traps (in one he finds his dinner, a fox, with its leg caught and terminally broken), and cleaned his rifle.
Then he goes to sleep, and the scene is all dark, showing the windows, the tops of the trees, and other shadows. After a while the viewer hears scuffling and then there is a shotgun blast that illuminates the room just long enough to see a real, live wolf standing over the cadaver of his wife, with her hands untied, her head turned away, and the blue ribbon on her stomach.
The scene is dark and silent once again, and then you hear the guy feverishly trying to light a candle. Finally, he gets one lit and illuminates the girls body. The final shot is of the girls face, her lifeless eyes wide with terror, and a deer hoof sticking out of her mouth, with blood running down her cheeks.
None of my friends remember this movie. I remember the teachers turning off the projector and having these smug, “yeah, what ya got now, ya little smartasses??” attitudes. They also asked if we had any questions. Every kid asked what the hell the movie meant. The teachers shrugged, smiling. I remember being floored for the rest of the day, and I recall this to be one of my first existential moments.
Please, please, please. Tell me you know the name of this movie.
If you made it this far and have no fucking clue, thank you for reading.
Hey Cecil, just wondering, what are your thoughts on the 2011 prequel to “The Thing”?
Hi Cecil,
I’m a huge fan, and thank you for making some fantastic videos. I’ve seen so many great movies I otherwise would have not thanks to your reviewes. 2 movies I would love to see you review are the 2012 alien invasion flick “attack the Block” the aliens in this flick are so cool, and it’s overall a fun movie. Second is the thriller “Donnie Darko” about a time traveling creepy 6foot tall demonic rabbit and so much more. I hope you get a opportunity to do a video for these, or at least just watch them, if you haven’t already.
Keep up the good work
Cheers
Tony
Discovered your videos recently and am completely won over by your talent. Have been listening pretty much nonstop and have found myself fairly addicted. Keep up the good work.
PS: It’s starring the young and handsome Bruce..! 😀
Cecil,
Have you ever considered exploring a Terry Gilliam flick? I’m specifically thinking the movie, Brazil. It has a great back story where Gilliam fought the production company, and a lot of neat things like a prime Robert Deniro playing a side character whose face is covered by eyepro the whole time. Every time I watch it I see new set pieces and allegory, and I think you would be able to make a great video picking all of these things out. Also, this movie is forgotten by about everyone which is a travesty! You can even add your favorite friend Roger Ebert’s review ,who said on camera that the movie was too claustrophobic, basically, missing the entire point of the film and proving that critics are dumb which imo is the one of the main reasons for your channel.
Also, I know MST3k covered this, but what about some Reb Brown flicks? Space Mutiny?
Are you syndicated with the Escapist or are they hanging you by the ankles while they take your lunch money and math homework? If it’s the first one – congrats! I thought you were just some dude trying to survive the best he could on Youtube living off of MRE’s and ducking when the copyright SS comes by to try and gas you. If it’s the latter… well walk 20 miles west and get a gun, I suppose.
Always loved your work. Very well articulated reasoning coming from a very honest honest place. Never once does it ever seem like someone shat on your rug by paying you to say x about x movie and then leave you to cover it in rugs and furniture until the viewer is distracted just enough to not smell bullshit. Always seems like you think x, you say x, next recording.
Hey, sorry I’m seeing this so much later. A lot has changed since you wrote this. I was syndicated with The Escapist but in May they ended the syndication partnership. I still freelance with them on their Twitch channel and have a good relationship with them. I was sad the deal ended but it was understandable. (they let go a lot of people)
So now between Youtube, Twitch and Patreon, I’m trying to make ends meet. Its nerve wracking and giving me ulcers but at least I’m doing something I love for a living.
I’m a big fan of movies in general and I know how much work goes into even the worst of films so I try to be as fair as possible. Now, if a movie is bad, I let it be known that it is but I don’t needlessly nitpick it to death like some other channels do. I look at what they did right and what they did wrong.
Thanks for the kind words!
Hi!
I just discovered your YouTube channel and wanted to ask why can’t you monetize your videos there? I’m kind of surprised by that because there are other movie reviewing channels who can monetize their videos…
Also have you thought about putting ads on this website? It’s really sad to think that you’re trying to make ends meet and basically only have the Patron account as your main source of income.
Best,
Noshaba
I’d love to see you do the movie “Critters”. I feel its right up ur alley.
hello-today is aug 18, 2017. I literally discovered you show on youtube 3 days ago and I am fascinated. you clearly love movies and you are refreshingly positive, even when you don’t like the movie. so-a question; the review of sinister ii, what was I watching?-thanks
Hi, thanks! I am a huge movie fan and thought there was far too much negativity out there, so wanted to talk about the positive and the often misunderstood or overlooked films.
As far as the Sinister 2 review, at the time I was still figuring out the “still in theater” reviews so I used to run game footage while I talked about them. For the video it was a puzzle game called The Misadventures of PB Winterbottom. Now, I just run stills from the trailer.
whew-I thought it might be the pain-killers.
Cecil,
Suggestion: The Deadly Spawn
Can you do The Deadly Spawn its a low budget 1980s horror move that ripoffs Alien but it has good monster effects
I just saw your piece on batman v superman, a complaint is that the batman costume was not sleek, but bulky and tank-like looking. otherwise I liked it.
now as far as wonder woman’s solo movie; your if-and-when has actually come-and-gone (sorry-had to do it). I was under the impression that the ww movie was already in the works and her appearance in this film was a sort of preview. (I did like the ww movie because I LOVE kick-ass women. my one complaint here is that the villain talked too damn much. blah blah blah I am right and you are wrong blah blah blah blah. it felt like an extra hour.
I loved the Wonder Woman movie but I agree, a little too much “evil guy lays out whole plan” at the end.
Hi, Cecil,
I hope you’re doing well. Yesterday, I went to an underground cinema here in Rosario to watch a movie from the 2000’s called “Cecil B. Demented” (what a coincidence, eh?) directed by John Waters, which you probably have already seen. I loved the movie and I immediately thought that it would be a nice addition to your “Exploring” series, because of how it satirizes Hollywood. I know that you probably have your hands full of projects and requests, but I hope you have the time (and the will) to do this one.
I’m a huge fan of your channel; keep up the good work!
hello-
in the beginning my life had no room for a movie entitled “HAPPY DEATH DAY”.
well, I saw your review and, since I like you (not in that way), I decided to go to my local Cinemark on 5 dollar day and give it a look. (that makes you the next r. ebert). well…
it was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a LONG time. it is well written, the acting is wonderful and the plot and details within the story were impeccable(wait…I have to go look this up-OK I was right) impeccable.
question though-was this a big studio movie or a small movie picked up by a big studio? either way…
-thank you
LOL Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I went in really not expecting much but really ended up having a blast.
This was a small-ish production, produced by Blumhouse and then picked up for distribution through Universal. It cost around 4.8 million.
Hi Cecil,
I didn‘t find a way to write to you privately (let me know if there is one, maybe via email), but I really wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your work and especially your in-depth-analysis and -thoughts. I often don‘t agree with general consensus or reviews of superhero or horror movies, which is why I am grateful for your videos. For example, I really (!) enjoyed Batman v Superman, especially the longer cut released on Bluray (what a shame by the way this was BR exclusive and not available on DVD). I don‘t want to sound like the clever guy who just goes against the mainstream opinion. I am not, but just I loved the seriousness of the movie, I think Clark and Lois had good chemistry in this one.For me there were a lot of political things that somehow felt like a dystopian world with roots in our here-and-now reality. I was surprised, because „Man of steel“ bored me a little. Like, honeytly, most superhero and action movies do… I find more gems in the horror genre, loved „The witch“, for example. In general I almost only watch more serious independent movies, including many European ones. I come from Germany. So, I just wanted you fo know how much I like what you are doing. Thank you for that! I wish you the best, bye, Chris
Hey Chris,
Thanks! I’m always happy to hear this sort of thing. I put a lot into every video so I always appreciate when its appreciated. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me all the time, I just hope that even if they don’t like the movie they at least like the video about the movie.
If you still want to contact me via email, on the main page of the site over on the left bar is a mail icon that has my email.
Thanks again.
All the Best,
Cecil
Just discovered your videos, having a great time catching up!
I’d like to suggest two for possible future reviews:
– The Keep
– Jason X
Please explore The Unnameable and The Unnameable II, the film versions of the HP Lovecraft short story!
I am absolutely addicted to this channel, which I discovered a few weeks ago. I am an English professor and have turned several of my colleagues on to it as well.
Thanks for this! It’s so much fun!
Hey,
Would you consider doing the 1991 film Popcorn? I feel there is a lot to be said and looked into with that film. From uncredited Producer, the legendary Bob Clark, to the fans and reviewer that are split between people who “get it”, and those that don’t.
Thanks,
Kraig
Have just discovered your channel with “Exploring John Carpenter’s Christine” randomly showing up in the recommended videos. Totally blown away and hoooked. As a fellow movie fan who also loves nearly every kind of movie (and an independent filmmaker trying to do something with a feature film I have started to film back in 2007!) seeing someone else finding some hidden gold in the b-movies and dissecting passion projects is very inspiring.
Was pleasantly surprised that someone already added “Good Bad Flicks” on IMDb, also it definitely needs some work, cleanup, expansion and other series like “Explored” added separately. As an IMDb enthusiast I would love to do that. 🙂
Ever thought about doing a video over Zit Lover? It is a short, indy film that came out in the early 2000s. I had a friend in high school that had it but lost touch with him. It is on YouTube.
Dear Cecil,
I really enjoy your reviews even though our opinions and tastes can differ. Over the past 7 days I think I’ve consumed most of your content.
I laughed my ass off watching you play Monstrum (all 4 parts).
The frustration as you got lost and confused, the anxiety as you fumbled the controls, the panic as you fled, then the very foreseeable death brought me great joy.
I’d love to see you attempt to play more horror/apocalypse games. I know there are plenty to choose from.
Faithfully,
DR
I just recently found your videos and am now binging through all of them. You’re smart, funny and your reviews show that you really do love movies. I completely lost it when you point out in your Robot Jox review that Athena becomes a man during a fight scene. Glad to see one of your first reviews was The Hidden, as it’s one of my favorites from the 80’s. I hope you can review a couple of my favorite underrated gems from the 80’s: Michael Crichton’s Looker and what I always considered its unofficial sequel, Runaway.
Hey just wanted to say that I LOVE your exploring series, I hope one day to be a filmmaker and they help me so much, and your vidoes on wtf happened to remakes and what does it take to make a good videogame movie is spot on in my opinion, I’m not much into low budget movies but you’ve made me see the importants of them because they show what the director and NOT the studio want and can do, i think that if studious would lay back a lot more we would get much much better movies( especially justice league 2017).
So all in all thank you for the hard work you do, keep it up and god bless
Your big fan Rambo Elliot-Hansen

Hi Chris,
I’d be interested to hear your take on the 1977 film Sorcerer and the more recent 2016 film Pet.
I saw Sorcerer years ago and I’ve never met anyone else who’s seen or heard of it. Its a cool random movie with Roy Scheider. Pet I saw last week and I’m not sure if I like or hate it as the Trailer ruined it a bit for me. Either way, keep up the cool reviews and discovering series. You’ve introduced me to a lot of great new movies and reminded me of ones I watched as a kid and forgotten about. (Like the epic movie Mosquito.)
Take care,
Marshall
Whoops! Just realized I wrote Chris, not Cecil. I’m an idiot…
You HAVE to do a show on “The Undertaker and his pals”. It’s a campy 60’s horror flick It’s about two off center dimwits who own a diner. I think you can guess the rest. I fucking love that flick
First of all, I want to say that I’m a huge fan of your show! My favorite episodes are the ones you did for the films Ticks, Spawn, Fly II, The Mask, and both of the Maniac Cop films and I look forward to your review of Maniac Cop III. I wanted to ask if you were interested in doing a review for a really good film that that most either love or hate. The 1999 films Lake Placid. I think that film is awesome not to mention it was directed by Steve Miner who directed some awesome classics like House (1986) and 2nd and 3rd Friday the 13th films. I think this would be an awesome choice for your show. Even if you don’t get to review this film, I will still be watching future installments of your awesome show! Keep up the awesome work!!
Hi Cecil,
watching your channel before sleeping has become habit for me, I only wish I know your channel 7 years ago. and of course that you have 10 mil more subscribers.
Thank you.
Could you share your address or something, I would like to send you a post card. (take caution posting personal info)

I’ve been a suscriber to your YouTube channel forever now but just started binging your episodes. Is there anywhere I can watch the 1-36 episodes?
Check out the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) website. The court has made a decision on “fair use” you may be interested in fighting YouTube or others:
After More Than a Decade of Litigation, the Dancing Baby Has Done His Part to Strengthen Fair Use for Everyone
It all started when Stephanie Lenz posted a YouTube video of her then-toddler-aged son dancing while Prince’s song “Let’s Go Crazy†played in the background, and Universal used copyright claims to get the link disabled. We brought the case hoping to get some clarity from the courts on a simple but important issue: can a rightsholder use the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to take down an obvious fair use, without consequence?
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit held that the DMCA requires a rightsholder to consider whether the uses she targets in a DMCA notice are actually lawful under the fair use doctrine. However, the court also held that a rightsholder’s determination on that question passes muster as long as she subjectively believes it to be true. This leads to a virtually incoherent result: a rightsholder must consider fair use, but has no incentive to actually learn what such a consideration should entail. After all, if she doesn’t know what the fair use factors are, she can’t be held liable for not applying them thoughtfully.
Thanks to the Lenz decision, courts will be more likely to think of fair use, correctly, as a crucial vehicle for achieving the real purpose of copyright law: to promote the public interest in creativity and innovation. And rightsholders are on notice: they must at least consider fair use before sending a takedown notice. After the Supreme Court denied petitions to consider the Ninthb Circuit’s ruling, the case returned to the district court for trial on the question of whether Universal’s takedown was a misrepresentation under the Ninth Circuit’s subjective standard. Rather than go to trial, the parties have agreed to a settlement.
Really enjoying your channel and video discussions. I was wondering if you had ever seen the Gundam movie, “G-Saviour?”
I know that this isn’t really your niche, but have you ever thought about doing a review on an actor.
I ran across this a while back and again today.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltVtnCzg9xw
And I was like I know that guy, and of course it is Burgess Meredith aka The Penguin aka Mickey.
This got me to looking up his bio,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burgess_Meredith
and I have to say I am fascinated by his life.
Just thought I would throw this out there, I haven following your work and I have learned a great deal and entertained by even more. You, Minty, and Found Flix are great reviewers.
You should do Bounty Killer.
I thought I’d give some suggestions of movies that you can do episodes on of movies even you may not have heard of…
RAWHEAD REX
BLUE MONKEY (VHS ONLY)
RAZORBACK
I’ll post others when I think of them.
hello-
just watched your “dead heat” video. you didn’t mention Darren McGavin, what gives? also-do you have any knowledge of hbombguy? just wondering.
love your stuff.
-thanks
Maybe have a look at Psycho Bettys from Planet Pussycat.
Dude any chance your ever gonna do, ” Band of the Hand” or even ” D.C. Cab” both great movie everyone of the so called critics at Rotten Tomatoes seem to shit on.
Hey there, I came across your channel recently and loved your videos. They are awesome. I think it’s a very interesting thing to know how a “bad movie” comes to life.
By the way, I have a suggestion for a movie that I think would be quite amusing to see on your series: the infamous Tarzan the Ape Man, 1981, starring Bo Derek. I, myself, didn’t like that much, but I would like to see your take on it.
Cheerios, from Brazil
Hey man, love the vids. I would wholeheartedly recommend “No Escape” from 1994 starring Ray Liotta. Awesome B-Level flick where Liotta is placed on an inescapable prison island and has to deal with a monstrous overlord of an inmate who runs the place as his personal kingdom. Plus you’ve got Lance Henriksen, Ian McNeice (my personal favorite Baron Harkonnen,) and Ernie Freakin’ Hudson! It’s a lot of fun and well worth a look.
Keep up the good work,
HR
Hi Cecil,
I know I’m by far not the first to say this but I absolutely love your content and the work you put into it. The commentary is on point, the editing is hilarious and gets better by the day and the selection of presented movies is really outstanding. (Most of them I wouldn’t know without you.) I found you some time ago on Youtube and after bingewatching almost everything on there I landed here 🙂
Greetings from Austria and keep up the good work,
Christian
Hi Cecil
I have to say, your channel has completely revitalized my movie watching habbits lately. Thank you so much for bringing all these obscure classics to my attention. Would you ever consider a show on Sergio Martino’s “Hands of steel”? I’d be surprised if you are not a fan already and would be interested to hear your thoughts.
Are you still doing this? I just discovered your channel. It’s incredible! It’s my favorite channel now!
Wanted to see if you’d consider reviewing BUNCO 1977?
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074257/?ref_=ttfc_fc_tt
I think this new youtube video by Cheddar seems very similar to the one you did about movie posters. Do you think they copied you, or is this just so obvious that anyone could figure this out? I wish they would have sourced you if they were inspired by you. I loved your rant on this. Here is a link to their video that is very similar to yours. https://youtu.be/1ThnxSaExzU . Feel free to email me back to let me know what you think.
Hi,
There is a 1986 movie called spookies. It freaked me out when I was 14. I couldn’t remember the name of it until today when I cast a wide net and found it on imdb. It seems soooo ideal for good bad flicks. The full movie is actually on youtube.

Hi Cecil,
I love your videos! They are extremely professional and well made, I love the theme of bringing attention to lesser known films. It has also totally made me appreciate film making with a whole different level of insight. Your work has partly inspired me to form a group on FB dedicated to discussing and sharing film news. The Great Movie and Shows Debate a lot of the time members and I discuss your videos and the ones who haven’t heard of your channel I always look forward to introducing them to it. Keep up the awesome work!
Sincerely,
August R Carlson
Afternoon Cecil, I just watched your video on “Pet Shop” and you said that you were going to do one on “Prehysteria”. well, the reason I am contacting you is that when they filmed the movie it was actually my next-door neighbor’s house, I was 8 years old but if you wanted a little more facts on the film that normally would not have been known you can contact me.
Hi, love your work, please keep on!
Have you seen STREET TRASH ? I didn’t see it in your reviews, it’s a fantastic oddity!!
Regards
Hi Cecil – Have you thought about making a vid about Virtuosity with Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe in his first Hollywood role? It’s a decent flick ahead of its time if you pay attention amid the violence..
Long-time Viewer, and Cheap-ass,
J
Can you do a video about the 1980 film, How to beat the high cost of living
Starring Jane Curtin, jessica Lange, and susan st James
https://youtu.be/9-77VpXSygs
Can you do a movie review of the 1985 film, Perfect
I just watched Starry Eyed after you suggested it in one of your videos. HOLY HECK. Thanks for getting me into indie horror movies!
I have a few questions.
I loved your video on Rudy Ray Moore and his Dolemite Character. Will you one day do a video on Paul Reubens and his Per Wee Herman character?
I cannot seem to find your original 38 videos except Cool as Ice on YouTube.when I try to pull them up on your website, they show error and won’t work. None of your later videos have that problem. Do you know an alternative way of viewing them or how to fix the error problems?
Have you seen A Gnome Named Gnorm and will you ever review it?

Hello there, checking to see if you still live. The last post on this (forum) was from 2017.
I adore your channel and have watched almost every video of yours on Youtube. Thank you for your content.
Honestly surprised that you haven’t done a video about The Beast Within (1982), about a teen that turns into a weird occult killer cicada monster that attacks a small town.
I would also recommend Remote Control (1988) staring Kevin Dillon and Jennifer Tilly. Everything is nu-wave. It’s about a killing spree involving a vhs tape that controls minds of its viewers.
Hello Cecil, I absolutely love your channel. These Reviews or laugh out riot and I watch them every week whenever they come out. I actually donated to your channel because I love it so much. I did however want to bring up one movie to you that you may or may not be aware of. It’s “used cars†from 1980 starring Kurt Russell. It’s about him as a sleazy used car salesman on a dusty lot where his boss dies and has to prevent the used car lot from falling into the hands of his bosses brother,Roy L. Fuchs (the font reads royal fuck on his lot sign right across the street) both brothers played by the legendary Jack warden. They bury his boss in an Edsel, and trick people into thinking he’s still alive. Directed by Robert Zimmericks and produced by Bob Gale and Stephen speilberg, a hilarious tna flick and the audio commentary on the dvd will have you screaming with laughter.
Hey Cecil,
I know you love your horror flicks and with this being Halloween can I please get you to do an “exploring” episode or something on a not so well known Halloween flick called “The Midnight Hour”???
It was a made for TV movie with Peter Deluis, Lee Montgomery, Shari Belafonte, lavar Burton and more. Its actually a really good flick and you can find it on YouTube right now so viewing it will be easy as pie. But I’d love to know more about it
Hey Cecil
Do you have a way to submit indie films for review?
We have a nunsploitation film that just premiered on Tubi.
I love watching and rewatching your videos. A few years back I watched Traxx on Youtube because it was uploaded by someone and had planned on watching it with friends recently, only to find the upload has been removed. I was considering showing them the 1 hour version (supposedly) uploaded by Shadoe on Vimeo, but wasn’t sure if it was a good option with what looks like a missing 20 minutes of the film. The other option I was considering was trying to rip it, but that would require a VCR, a copy of the movie, and a way to capture it. What do you recommend, Traxx was one of those movies I would watch annually.
Question:
What is your process when writing a script for one of your review videos(Ex:your Brain eaters video or LA Bounty Vid) Im in process of trying to make a vid of my own and would like some advice. Especially from one of my favorites.
Also big fan of the channel wish you the best!
How about a video on Daughters of Darkness (1971)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hB-qnpcEF2Q&ab_channel=mf5001
You might enjoy this lovely documentary on Roger Cormans film studio in Ireland.
RIP Roger, A legend.
Keep up the great work Cecil – Big Fan!
