The plan for this week was to have the 1997 sci-fi movie Moon Base. However, after working on it I was not happy with how the whole thing was turning out so I decided to scrap it for now. I think I just burned myself out with Blair Witch 2 and need a breather to get my groove back.
So after working on Moon Base and it completely sucking, I decided I really need a weekend off so I can relax and spend some time with my wife. (and my cat!) I figured the three day weekend would be a nice break and would give me some much needed time to clear my head. Plus, next week is Sharknado and I really want to knock that one out of the park. (which, I try to do with all of them but this one is an extra special occasion)
I do have a sort of Top 10 video I’m going to put up so there will still be a video this week just not a review.
Also, I wanted to announce a new column I’ll be posting here every so often.
I’m starting a little side thing called “Still in Theaters.” Essentially, I get tons of requests to review newer movies along with my older stuff. Now, occasionally I dip into the new barrel, but mostly I try to stay with the older, lesser known or lesser appreciated stuff. However, I think I have a solution: text.
What I aim to do is this: for a film still in theaters, I’ll post a written, spoiler-free review. I don’t get to the theater all that often, so chances are if it is a new movie in theaters and I’m writing about it, I really liked it (since I felt the need to actually make the time to see it instead of just waiting for the DVD).
The goal is two-fold. First, it provides fan service to those who would like to know my thoughts on newer movies. Second, maybe it will drive some traffic to the site since new stuff tends to attract attention.
The downside is that I don’t get out to the movies too much (Mainly because most of what is in theaters is rubbish), so this will probably be a very infrequent thing. I do think it will be cool, though, and it will give me an outlet to talk about new stuff.
Later on today I’ll post the first review, the badass horror flick “You’re Next.”
Have a great weekend everyone. I’ll post the video and the text review later Sunday night. In the meantime, I’m going to get some sleep.
Too bad about Moon Base – I have never even heard of it. But better to be happy with your work than to slide into subpar routine.
Have fun and enjoy your weekend.
As for the newer reviews: a review is a review. There are many movies that don’t get a fair shake when they are first released, so different opinions are always welcome, especially since ticket prices are approaching the bank-loan level of absurd.
Hang in there, Cecil!
Maybe you need a week of rest. Take some time go jump in some water and drink a few adult beverages. I know I will still tune in when you get back.
Keep being a rock star.
You take as much time off as you need. The last thing that I want is your reviews becoming boring and repetitive, without passion. Enjoy yourself.
Enjoy your weekend,Cecil and looking forward to your new feature. I’ve heard a lot of buzz about “You’re Next”(plus the first trailer for it was AWESOME!),so your take on it will be much appreciated.
“Moon Base” huh? My guesses weren’t even close.
By all means take a break, it is Labor Day after all. I had to remind myself of that same thing this week when I finished one project and immediately leaped into another more ambitious one, only to have it blow up in my face. I think a few days off will do us both some good.
Sorry to hear Moon Base fell apart. Definitely kick back and be a bum for the weekend. One of the things I really enjoy about your vids is the laid back and mostly positive approach you take so decompress and grab a Margarita. We’ll wait.
