That one guard in the harem looked like Randy Quaid. Just thought I’d mention for no damn reason.
The 80s was a great time for fantasy and post-apocalypse. I still remember sitting around the TV to watch Wizards and Warriors. I mean, sure, it didn’t last the season, but still… the fact that a show like that was on CBS. And I’m now realising that I’m really dating myself with this…
This looks pretty standard for the 80s but is much more… well… misogynistic than usual (and I hate using that word). Also more violent, too. Wow, that drawing and quartering was pretty gruesome.
Holy crap, he does have a Randy Quaid thing going on.
I grew up on a steady diet of Sword and Sorcery, Post Apocalyptic, Creature Double Feature, and Kung Fu Theater its no wonder I’m messed in the head lol. Network tv, much like mainstream movies, used to take risks and do things…weird things! They were awesome things though! Could you imagine someone greenlighting a Misfits of Science or Automan now? Everything on regular network tv is generic and when they do put out something that looks promising, it gets cancelled almost immediately. Why bother? Why don’t they give these shows a chance? Hell, they went through all the trouble of picking the pilot and putting together the marketing so someone had hope for it. Why not give it at least a freaking season? Do they forget that Seinfeld was an absolute flop at first?
Yeah, even I can admit this is a bit misogynistic. I think it was supposed to be a sort of tale of redemption but that got lost in all the edits the studio made.
This was definitely worth waiting for,Cecil and another cool intro from Handsome Eric as well! Cristiona, I fondly recall Wizards and Warriors, too(especially Julia Duffy as the spoiled princess). The 1980s were ripe with S&S flicks and I remember a few years ago when mention was made of how replays of The Beastmaster got incredibly high ratings whenever it was put on against presidential speeches on TV. Not sure what that says about America but then, again I think I would rather check out Marc Singer and his animal buddies over some of the blather politicians tend to spew out these days:)
Thanks! I was telling Eric this is my new favorite opening. He nailed it.
Watching V and The Beastmaster so much as a kid, when I ran into Marc Singer at a convention a few years ago it was one of the few times where I was star struck. I got him to sign one of the V propaganda posters. He was super cool and I just kept repeating how awesome Beastmaster was. Oh well, happens to the best of us.
I also agree, I would rather even watch Beastmaster 2-3 than the usual garbage political double talk.
Holy Cod Fish. I watched this flick years ago Cecil. Mainly for Lana Clarkson. Ahhh the 80s. My childhood reborn via the internet. Thanks man. Good to see someone else likes this stuff. 🙂
Great choice for the long awaited comeback from the forced hiatus. And you’ve certainly done your homework for this one. I thought there was nothing new to know about it, but I was wrong. 🙂
Anyway, great to hear your rig is in order again. 🙂
Felicia was always my favorite.

1.did james rolfe of cinnemassecre already review these movies?
He did a video that briefly covered all the films in the series. I’m focusing on each one individually.

Kang is a character in this movie? Don’t blame me. I voted for Kodos.
lol
Go ahead, throw your vote away!

Thanks! I’m so happy to be working with my main again. ^^
I actually had a little bit more for Deathstalker but cut it for time. (it wasn’t anything terribly interesting anyway)
Cecil, I rarely disagree with your assessments, but Boris Vallejo is just a 3rd rate Frazetta.
That’s fine, Frazetta is also amazing.
I first saw this movie on TNT’s MonsterVision. Ahem….Joe Bob Briggs! Come back to us!
This movie needs more Torgo!
dododododododododododododododododo (torgo theme)
Erhard is in Firefox, but he’s not in the King and I. Where did you get that info?
Even I found it offensive and I`m not a woman!!
heheh
