Dread
A messed up college student gathers a bunch of kids in his class to do a study on fear. After finding out what each of them is afraid of, he uses that to torment them in horrible, horrible ways.
This was one of the horrorfest movies, which are often hit or miss. Definitely a hit. This was something different and had no idea what was coming next.
Jackson Rathbone played an incredible psycopath and you really felt bad for all the students that he was tormenting. The things he did to get the reaction he wanted was downright nasty. In one part, you will be holding back your lunch.
The writing was well constructed and the whole idea was one of the more inventive things I’ve seen in recent horror films. The movie was based on the short story of the same name by Clive Barker. It can be found in volume 2 of Books of Blood. If you are familiar with the famous author then you should already have an idea of how disturbing it is.
I don’t want to go into it but the ending had me sitting, blank faced while the credits rolled. Not your typical horror film.
I read the short story in Books of Blood (Vol. II) and feel that the Saw franchise owes a lot to the short story. I have yet to see the film (mainly due to available time and the fact that there is no ‘ symbol before the ‘s’ in Cliver Barkers) so not sure how much it deviates from the pretty short story.
Glad to see some text reviews up!

Not sure how far it deviates from the story but it is a very solid movie.
I may do some more text reviews from time to time. 🙂
Nasty scene with the rotting meat.
