Thanks for another solid episode, bolstered by two wrestling references.
Good Bad Flicks is running wild!! Any chance of seeing a GBF of No Holds Barred or Grunt! The Wrestling Movie?
I was hoping someone would pick up on the Billy Gunn reference. No holds barred is a definite, just not sure when. Haven’t seen Grunt but I’ll check it out.
Maybe the javelin was supposed to represent a phallic symbol given that the killer had a sex change or they were just to lazy to think of creative kills using different objects.
So how hard is it to find this movie? I love the oh-so-creative kill method of Nurse Diane Paine. I like the strategic cover-up of nudity (thank you for that, I’m not comfortable with female nudity, being female and all), especially using Chris Kattan’s face, that was hilarious!
Sports films, especially the ones that came out in the 1980s, are hit and miss. Case in point, Rad. Which I know I have mentioned before. That’s about up there with this film, and both were unintentionally funny.
Great review, looking forward to the next one. If its up on Sunday night, I will be watching it late at night in my hotel room in Chicago, where I will be on vacation, attending the Creation Entertainment Stargate Convention. Oh yeah, I’m a nerd!!! 🙂
It’s pretty tough to find. I had to get an import from region 2 because it’s not available on DVD in the US.
Well, certain scenes have nudity in them and I try to keep it funny by putting interesting censor bars. (I may keep the Chris Kattan one around for a while, that one is silly)
RAD is supremely awesome. You’ll be seeing that very soon. For serious.
I’m back to a normal schedule so unless some unforseen nonsense gets in the way, the episode should be up Sunday night.
Thanks! This is one concept that I think could be done again without having to go full remake. Just take the concept (horror movie with olympic hopefuls) and use lots of different sports weapons. Massive potential.
I really enjoy your reviews. You hit the highs and lows great. The think I really love is that back stories about the production. For me that adds a lot of understand of why someone would play to have something like this made, and/or why the finial product is what it is.
My goal with finding out about the production for the film was pretty much exactly as you described. Often, it helps to understand why the movie ended up the way it did. (and helps to make it more interesting)
Another great review, Cecil. I’m just spit-balling here (as I haven’t seen the movie), but to me the javelin looks like a visual metaphor for Nurse Paine’s failed sex change- she couldn’t get rid of her masculinity and now she uses it to attack those towards whom she feels jealous. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have an Armchair Psychiatrist Convention to attend 😉
Another relic of the 80s. The music, the hair, the clothes, the excessive nudity. Just… awesome.
It truly was a magical time. 🙂
Yes I looked in the refrigerator under the cheese, and no I still didn’t find my dignity.
hahahahahahaha awesome

Wow, I didn’t even think of that. Most likely that has to be what they were going for. Good one!
CECIL!

Have fun at the Stargate convention! 🙂
Another flawles review Cecil. I am with you, though. With all the other sports in the olympics, other kill methods would have been great.

I genuinely think you might be on to something!
