Also, I’m pleased to see Battle: LA on your honorable mention list. That movie got a lot more hate than it deserved. I mean, sure, it’s military porn, but I rather enjoyed it.
I agree with you completely about Beastly. Pretty much every complaint you mentioned were what I would yell at my TV when I saw the ads. And while the crazy tats and scars might not be my thing, but there’s a lot of women out there who would be creaming themselves over him; like pretty much everyone on suicidegirls.
I don’t know, Tucker and Dale never seemed to get old…for me at least. I thought it did get crazier and crazier but I enjoyed the ride.
While Rare Exports was released in Finland in December of 2010, it wasn’t released in the US until October of 2011. I go by when they were released in the US. 🙂
Battle LA kicked ass. I thought it was very well done.
Exactly. Beastly was so shallow, I can’t believe no one working on it was like “hey, are we supposed to feel bad for this guy?” He learned nothing and in the end he still got the girl. Give it a year and he’ll be back to being a dickweed.
pleased to see “hobo with a shotgun” on your best of list. it made us canadians proud. at the genie awards (the canadian oscars) it didn’t get a single nod but quickly forgotten duds like a dangerous method and the whistleblower got mad love. the world just isn’t fair. luckily canadian exploitation will live on
Hobo with a Shotgun is great. I saw Treevenge a while back and knew this guy was headed for greatness. Don’t worry, years from now no one will remember those movies but we’ll still be watching Hobo.
X-men was a major step in the right direction for comic book movies and is the reason why we now have quality like Batman Begins and Spider-man. They showed that if you take the subject matter seriously, you can make a great film. People forget that most comic book movies up to that point were mishandled garbage.
I thought X-Men 2 was the worst out of the trilogy.
Granted X-Men set the tone for the more serious and dramatic comic book adaptation films but I thought the characters were rather dull compared to how they were portrayed in the cartoon series of the 90’s which what I think made First Class a good film.

Oh, that reminds me, you have seen The Room, right? Such a great movie in the sense that train wrecks are quality entertainment. I say the same about Cool as Ice, but at least the production values seemed better than the low-quality look of The Room.

The Room is unbelievably bad. The first time I saw it I couldn’t believe it was real, I thought it had to be some elaborate joke. What a disaster…I’ve seen it a few times. LOL
Birdemic is bad but, IMHO, it is more likeable than The Room simply because the characters are more likeable. Everyone in the Room was a creep. If you like this sort of thing you are in for a treat with Birdemic.
Beastly would make for a great Rifftrax, there is so much material they could work with. I hope they do it someday. Sanctuary! Hell yeah!
Green Lantern wasn’t as bad as people said but it wasn’t as good as it should have been. Green Lantern is my favorite long running comic book hero and I wish they would have done it right. I think they tried to cram too much into the movie and it just felt crowded. Plus, they made Hal Jordan into an ass. I would have rather they started the Kyle Rayner story arc. It would have been a better way to introduce audiences to the story.
I just watched Hobo With a Shotgun and you nailed it. It manages to be exactly what a movie with that title should be while repeatedly surprising. It combined B-movie camp with high levels of gore and a genuine heart. While the acting was mostly middling at best, the hobo turned in an excellent performance.

Wow, I’ve had a few people disagree with me on X-men. I didn’t expect that at all, I thought the movie was grand.
You liked the first two X-Men films I thought they were terrible.

I just got Conan from Netflix so I’m not sure how it is yet.
I thought Source Code was one of the better films of 2011.
I also like The Green Lantern and don’t understand why it got such negative reviews.
Source Code was quite good. Very well done.

I hadn’t heard of the Green Lantern before the movie was released so I can’t compare it to the source material.
