Monster Squad is just SO darn good. I always had the feeling it was overlooked in favor of the inferior (but Spielbergian) Goonies, but MS is the one that, to me, really captured that era of being 12 or so, not quite an adult but still having to deal with “grown up” issues. Just a fantastic movie.
First Blood was really good. Just REALLY good. It kind of grabbed that VN vet issue, like Deer Hunter, and twisted the theme into an action movie…but it worked. The later Rambo films were pretty much brain-dead Reagan-era nonsense, but First Blood was probably one of Stallone’s better films (but I liked F.I.S.T., so what do I know?).
Byzantium is the only one here I haven’t seen, so I’ll have to give that one a watch.
So many people only think of the action fest that was Rambo, they don’t even know that First Blood is a much more serious (and dare I say “movie that deals with important issues”)
